Dawn of the Dead – Hellpainter “Steven Zombie” Garage Kit – Extremely Rare Japanese Resin Model
An exceptionally rare Japanese Dawn of the Dead garage kit produced by Hellpainter, depicting one of the most iconic zombies from George A. Romero’s legendary 1978 film – Stephen “Flyboy” Andrews.
Released under the name “Steven the Zombie” / “Steven Zombie”, this highly sought-after resin garage kit captures Stephen after his transformation into the memorable Flyboy Zombie, one of the defining characters from Dawn of the Dead.
The model is supplied as an unbuilt and unpainted multi-part resin kit, retaining the raw cream-coloured resin pieces ready for assembly and painting.
Included amongst the components is the highly detailed Stephen/Flyboy head sculpt together with the body, arms, hands and associated pieces required to construct the finished model.
An Extremely Rare Japanese Dawn of the Dead Collectible
Hellpainter garage kits were specialist Japanese collector pieces and are considerably less commonly encountered than mainstream commercially produced horror models.
This particular Steven Zombie kit is especially difficult to find today, and surviving examples in unbuilt and unpainted condition with their original box are rarely offered for sale.
For serious Dawn of the Dead collectors, this is the type of obscure Japanese garage-kit release that can be exceptionally difficult to replace once sold.
The original box features distinctive black, white and red artwork with images of Stephen/Flyboy from the film and the title:
STEVEN THE ZOMBIE
along with the famous Dawn of the Dead tagline:
“When there’s no more room in Hell, the dead will walk the Earth.”
Stephen “Flyboy” Andrews
Stephen Andrews – better known to fans as Flyboy – was portrayed by David Emge in Dawn of the Dead.
Following his death during the climactic biker invasion of the Monroeville Mall, Stephen returns as a zombie and instinctively makes his way back toward the survivors’ hideout.
His distinctive appearance after becoming one of the undead has made the Flyboy Zombie one of the most instantly recognisable images associated with Romero’s film.
This Hellpainter kit recreates that memorable character as a large-format resin display model for the dedicated horror and garage-kit collector.
