Own an authentic piece of one of the most memorable locations in George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead.

This original section of wood-grain panelling was salvaged from the interior of the JCPenney elevator at Monroeville Mall—the elevator featured during the terrifying final transformation of Stephen, better known to fans as “Flyboy.”

Played by David Emge, Stephen meets his grisly fate during the climactic biker raid before returning as one of the film’s most iconic zombies. The unforgettable moment when the elevator doors open to reveal the undead Flyboy has become one of the defining images of Romero’s 1978 horror classic.

The original JCPenney store occupied the central section of Monroeville Mall when Dawn of the Dead was filmed there during 1977 and 1978. When the former store was demolished and redeveloped to make way for the Cinemark theatre complex, parts of the famous elevator were rescued before they could be lost forever.

This fragment was cut from the distinctive wood-grain interior panelling visible behind Flyboy in the movie. Its pattern and colouring can be compared with the accompanying film photograph.

Also included is an 8 × 10-inch photograph showing zombie Flyboy standing inside the elevator, providing the perfect visual accompaniment for displaying this remarkable artefact.

The wooden panel remains exactly as salvaged, with an irregular shape, unfinished edges and signs of age and use. These characteristics are an important part of its history and authenticity.

Included in the sale:

• One original piece of wood-grain panelling salvaged from the JCPenney “Flyboy” elevator
• One 8 × 10-inch photograph of Flyboy inside the elevator

This is not a reproduction or a decorative piece made to resemble the movie location. It is a surviving fragment of the actual Monroeville Mall elevator associated with one of the most celebrated scenes in Dawn of the Dead.

A rare filming-location artefact and an extraordinary opportunity for a serious George A. Romero, Dawn of the Dead or Monroeville Mall collector.
